What is platformireland.ie
platformireland.ie is an Irish arts and culture channel. Its aim is to engage, entertain, inform and educate existing and new audiences worldwide. Platformireland.ie has been established to bridge a gap in current national cultural services, and to function as a unique digital doorway or a ‘virtual building’ to showcase and market the activities of Irelands professional arts and culture community to domestic and international audiences.
platformireland.ie is the first service in Europe to present Irish performing arts LIVE in HD via the Web.
In 2009, platformireland.ie was trialed with funding from Still Point Productions and the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht (then,Tourism, Culture and Sport) and in partnership with forty leading Irish arts organisations and tv/film production companies.
In July 2010, PIatform Ireland was acknowledged in the Irish submission to the EU Green Paper on Creative Industries. Platform Ireland has been presented under the section ‘Mobility and the circulation of cultural and creative works’ as the working example for Ireland and Europe for cultural content dissemination models.
In June 2011, The Arts Council of Ireland provided funding under the Touring and Dissemination of Work Scheme 2011/12 which underlines the Council’s commitment to giving greater access to audiences countrywide.
In September 2011, founder-director Jessica Fuller was shortlisted for the IIA Rookie of the Year Awards for innovation in technology and culture.
Aims
platformireland.ie is about opening another door to the world of Irelands arts and culture. Its about enhancing the live and bringing the arts world ALIVE...expanding audiences.
